KANPUR: A 21-year-old student committed suicide allegedly by shooting himself at his house in Kamlapur locality under Sajeti police station of the district on late Tuesday night. Harshit Sachan, a B.Pharma student at a local institute, was reportedly under depression.
According to police, Harshit took the extreme step late on Tuesday night after dinner. “He and his mother were alone at the house at the time of the incident,” said Quan Kheda police outpost in-charge Avneesh Yadav. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, he added.
On coming across gunshot sound, Harshit’s mother Gita rushed to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood. On hearing her shrieks, his neighbours reached the spot and took Harshit to a nearby Community Health Centre where doctors at the emergency pronounced him dead on arrival. The police arrived at the CHC and shifted the body to morgue for autopsy, Yadav said.
“Harshit’s family members stated that after the death of his father, Ramakant Sachan, who had passed away a few years ago, Harshit was reeling under depression since then. They, however, feigned ignorance as to what led to sudden provocation prompting him to take such an extreme step. Investigations are underway in this regard,” said the police outpost in-charge.
