Two youths & auto driver save injured woman’s life in Jaipur

Nitin Gurjar (L) and Arun Sharma at the hospital on Wednesday
JAIPUR: With government-run ambulances on strike, two youths and a autorickshaw driver turned out to be life saviours for an elderly woman who was bleeding and unconscious at MD Circle on MD Road.
Twenty-six-year-old Arun Sharma and 21-year-old Nitin Gurjar, who were on their way to distribute Sharma’s wedding cards, spotted a woman lying unconscious with injuries.
“When we were passing through MD Circle, a vehicle hit an elderly woman and fled. She was bleeding profusely. There was no one helping her. We tried calling 108 ambulance service repeatedly, but we did not get the response. We thought that the woman would have died, if she did not get treatment on time. We decided to rush her to the hospital on our own,” said Gurjar, a self-employed youth.
Since the 108 ambulance service employees (drivers and nursing staff) were on strike due to non-payment of their salaries, the duo stopped an autorickshaw and rushed the unknown elderly woman to Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics of Sawai Man Singh Hospital.
“I am getting married on February 18 and it was important for us to distribute the invitation cards. But it was even more important for us to help the unknown elderly woman, lying on the road and needing immediate treatment,” said Sharma, a jeweller from Vaishali Nagar area.
He said that there were a lot of people surrounding the elderly woman but nobody was ready to help her.
Even the autorickshaw driver did not charge any money for transporting the elderly woman.
The two youths admitted the unknown woman to the hospital and made sure that her treatment started, before leaving from the hospital.
