NEW DELHI: The government is likely to push for legislation on curbing child
pornography after a parliamentary ad hoc committee reported to the House the “serious menace” of child porn and made 40
recommendations to the government, including calling for mandatory apps on all devices and filters to regulate children’s access to pornography content.
The government has so far told Parliament it is taking several steps to curb pornography through social media platforms. Rajya Sabha chairman M
Venkaiah Naidu, who had constituted the committee, called for wider discussions in Parliament over the issue.
Naidu also expected to impress upon the government the need for legislation in this area. The 40 recommendations also sought a broader definition of child pornography, controlling access for children to such content and making internet service providers and online platforms accountable for children being able to access such content.
