Groom shot on way to wedding in Azamgarh

Varanasi: A groom was shot dead by two miscreants on way to the bride’s house for the wedding ceremony in Devgaon police station area of Azamgarh district on Tuesday night. Police has launched a manhunt to arrest the assailants.
Police officials said marriage of Sumit Gupta, a resident of Singhpur village in Mehnagar area, had been fixed with daughter of Lalbahadur Gupta of Lalganj and the groom and his relatives were on their way to the wedding venue when two motorcycle-borne miscreants shot the groom and fled. Sumit was rushed to Lalganj community health centre where doctors declared him dead.
The shocked family and relatives started creating ruckus at the hospital, following which police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The body was sent for postmortem. “We are investigating the matter. The motive behind the killing is not clear yet. The case would be worked out and miscreants nabbed soon,” said Azamgarh SP Triveni Singh.
