DARTMOUTH — Durfee's offense sputtered down the stretch in a 62-58 boys' basketball loss to Dartmouth on Tuesday night at the Carlin Lynch Activity Center.
The Hilltoppers (3-12) led 51-44 with four-and-a-half minutes to play.
Senior guard Eric Viera (17 points) started the Indian comeback with a 3-pointer at 4:27. After Durfee's Jevon Holley (22 points) answered with a tough jumper in traffic for the Hilltoppers' last basket, Dartmouth, its pressure defense kicking in, scored the next eight points. Junior Cam Dennis (16 points) scored the last four in that run for a 55-53 lead with 2:49 to play.
Two Jaden Lewis (11 points) free throws gave the Hilltoppers their last tie at 55, with 1:57 to play.
Viera drained a 3 and quickly followed with a basket off a press steal for the 60-55 lead with 1:20 to play.
Still down 5 with 31.3 seconds to play, Durfee had the ball and Holley was fouled taking a 3, but not until the clock had run down to 10.1 seconds.
Holley made all three free throws. Durfee had to foul twice to get Dartmouth (8-8) to the line and junior guard Cole Pimental made both ends of a 1-and-1 with 7.6 second to play.
