Essential services amendment Bill introduced in House

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant introduced the Goa Essential Services Maintenance (amendment) Bill, 2020, seeking amendment to sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Goa Essential Services Maintenance Act so as to increase the punishment provided in the said sections so as to have a deterrent effect and for prevention of offence.

As per the Bill introduced in the state legislative assembly on Tuesday, the government has proposed punishment of three-year jail term and a minimum fine of Rs 5,000 for violating the provisions of the said Act.

It has also proposed amendment to section 9 of the principal Act making an offence cognisable and non-bailable.

Minister for Cooperation Govind Gaude introduced the Goa Co-operative Societies (amendment) Bill, 2020, which seeks to omit fourth proviso to sub-section of section 59 of the Goa Co-operative Societies Act so as to enable the board of directors of the apex or federal co-operative society, which is the representative of the primary co-operative society, to also enjoy managerial right in individual capacity over such primary co-operative society.
