GURUGRAM: An argument over performing religious ceremony at a temple in an ancestral house turned ugly when two families clashed and attacked each other with sticks and stones in Gwalpahari.
Police said that around 6 people, including a 70-year-old woman, had sustained injuries. The video clip of the brawl, recorded by a neighbour, went viral on social media following which 22 people were booked on Tuesday.
According to police, the two families have a history of dispute and litigation. The ongoing dispute escalated with an argument on Sunday where members of one family armed with sticks and iron rods attacked the other group.
The commotion continued for half an hour after which the neighbours and other people living in the area intervened and informed the police. By then, the accused had managed to escape. Those who suffered injuries were taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 10 from where they were referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. According to sources, all the injured are said to be out of danger.
On the complaint of Naveen, whose family had been attacked, a case was registered at DLF-1 police station under relevant sections. “They came to our house, hurled abuses and threatened to us for filing a case in the court,” Naveen said, adding that the other family had even attacked his 70-year-old mother Rajesh Devi.
The injured were identified as Naveen, Krishan, Santara Devi, Rajesh Devi, Sunita Devi and Jitender alias Jittu. One of the neighbours had recorded the act on his mobile phone in which a group of people armed with sticks can be seen attacking the other family.
Some people are even seen throwing stones on the person who was recording the video. The footage was handed over to police for investigation. SHO of DLF-1 police station, inspector Vishnu Prashad said that both the parties have a history of old enmity.
