Autorickshaw driver loots woman of Rs 25K

PUNE:  An autorickshaw driver allegedly looted Rs 25,000 pension money from a 65-year-old woman after she boarded the vehicle for going home from the bank in Kothrud on Monday afternoon. After the robbery, while speeding away, he ran over the woman’s feet.

Based on a complaint from the woman, Kothrud police registered an FIR against the unidentified autorickshaw driver. The incident took place around 3 pm near Ajanta Avenue society, off Paud Road, Kothrud. 

According to the police,  the woman withdrew money from the State Bank of India’s Anand Nagar branch. She then boarded the same autorickshaw which she had hired from her house in Vrindavan Society to reach the bank. However, the driver took a different route. The woman asked him to stop. She took out a Rs 20 note to pay him. He halted the autorickshaw at an isolated spot near Ajanta Avenue society and snatched away Rs 25,000 cash from her. While fleeing, the autorickshaw ran over her feet. The woman fell down and sustained injuries on her shoulder, head and legs. After she shouted for help, some residents rushed her to a nearby hospital. 
 
Police Sub-Inspector N O Mundhe is investigating the case.
