NAGPUR: The flying squad of
Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s transport department on Wednesday suspended 22 conductors of Aapli Bus after they were caught
pocketing fare collected from passengers.
Transport committee chairman Narendra Borkar along with the flying squad visited Mor Bhavan bus stop at 12 noon on Wednesday for surprise checking. Borkar and the team was there till 4pm and instructed passengers to ensure they get tickets as soon the bus starts. The team also directed conductors to ensure no ticketless passenger is found on the bus anytime during the journey.
“Since I took over the charge as panel’s chairman, the NMC team has caught 22
Aapli Bus conductors red-handed pocketing bus fares. Besides this, the conductors caught were also found active in WhatsApp groups allegedly being used to alert ticket checkers’ movements,” he said. Borkar’s directives also led to locking of ticketing machines of 81 conductors for pocketing the fares.
Borkar’s action has also resulted in increase in the NMC’s revenue. On February 3 and 4, the NMC recorded Rs29.50 lakh and Rs30 lakh, respectively, as revenue from tickets. Earlier, it used to get not more than Rs18 lakh a day.
