KOLKATA: Cops probing the e-wallet cheating cases have found that the fraudsters are duping many people with the help of QR codes. Users of online banking are being lured to enter their login details on a phishing page looking like a banking site. Using various techniques, the fraudsters get access to the victims' details and siphon off money from their accounts.
Subhabrata Das, a Garia resident, became a victim of QR code fraud and was duped of Rs 80,000. "Chandan Sikdar, a crook, wanted to purchase my handicraft products from FB marketplace. He asked for my e-wallet details to send me money. He took my WhatsApp number and sent me a QR code. As I scanned the code, Rs 80,000 was deducted from my account," he said.
