BENGALURU: The old runway at
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will be closed for nearly seven months to facilitate runway upgradation work, including installation of CAT-IIIB landing system that enables pilots to land aircraft in low visibility conditions.
From March 26 to November 4, the New South Parallel Runway, inaugurated in December 2019, will be used for flight operations. The new runway, though fitted with centreline lights, is not CAT IIIB compliant.
The runway is currently CAT-I compliant. A circular issued by Bangalore International Airport said that the new runway is expected to become fully operational by the first week of April 2020.
