CHANDIGARH: The
Punjab and
Haryana high court on Monday denied anticipatory bail to suspended
Mansa Devi police station house officer (SHO) Ravi Kant Sharma in a case of extortion caught on tape.
On December 11, 2019, a case under sections 384 (punishment for extortion) and 354-D (punishment for stalking) of the IPC was registered against the SHO and a home guard employee. The case was registered following a
complaint by the beauty salon owner, who also submitted CCTV camera footage to the police. The leaked footage shows the salon manager's handing over cash to the home guard jawan at the reception, which the complainant alleged was bribe. In her statement recorded before the magistrate, the manager denied handing over any bribe and said she had family relations with the jawan.
The Haryana home minister had marked the salon owner's complaint to the Panchkula commissioner of police (CP).
