Underworld don Gawli moves HC for parole citing wife’s ill health

Nagpur: Underworld don Arun Gawli has once again knocked the judiciary’s doors for seeking parole of 45 days, this time for attending his ailing wife Asha. Earlier, he had sought leave for looking after his old mother, who later passed away.
A division bench comprising justices Pradeep Deshmukh and Pushpa Ganediwala on Tuesday issued notices to state government and other respondents asking them to reply within two weeks.
The gangster-cum-politician had moved the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court through counsel Mir Nagman Ali praying for grant of the parole. Earlier, his application for parole was rejected by the divisional commissioner on the grounds that his presence many led to law and order situation in Mumbai, after which he moved HC.
The noted gangster was convicted for murder of Shiv Sena MLA Kamalakar Jamsandekar on August 3, 2012 along with 11 others and was awarded rigorous life imprisonment.
He was first released on parole on May 5, 2015, and then on furlough on April 13, 2016. He was again set off on parole on October 21 in same year and on furlough on April 2017.
Last year also, the HC had granted furlough to Gawli in March.
All five times, the Mumbai don reported back before the deadline for surrendering before the jail authorities, Ali said.
