MANGALURU:
Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) has strongly condemned former Union minister and BJP MP
Anant Kumar Hegde’s alleged remarks on
Mahatma Gandhi calling the freedom struggle led by him a ‘drama’.
Addressing a press conference, DCC president and MLC K
Harish Kumar said the BJP should immediately expel Hegde from the party.
“Let the BJP expel Anant Kumar Hegde from the party and remove him from his office as MP. This is not the first time that Hegde has made derogatory statements and is showing arrogant behaviour. In the previous instances, Hegde has assaulted a doctor, stoked a controversy by making statements of changing the Constitution and called rationalists dogs. He also made provocative statement to ‘cut the hands of those who touch Hindu women’. It is a tragedy that such a person has been given entry into the Parliament as a MP,” Kumar lamented.
There are hundreds of historical monuments and statues of Mahatma Gandhi across the nation. Further, we can see roads in the name of Gandhi all over India, Kumar said and dared BJP to condemn Gandhi openly by removing all memorials if the party does not want to take action against Anant Kumar Hegde. “All people together should boycott Hegde, who made derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi,” Kumar said.
He also urged the police to book suo moto case against Hegde. “Criticising a government in a democracy is a right of every citizen, but the BJP considers it an anti-national act. If so, isn’t this (Hegde’s statements against Mahatma Gandhi) anti-national,” he questioned.
