Two held for killing, dismembering man in Delhi

Pushpender went missing from his house on Sunday evening
NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man was murdered and his body partially dismembered to be stuffed into a bag in Mangolpuri on Sunday. The accused, Mohammad Saleem and Pankaj, were known to the man and stayed in the same area. Pushpender’s body was dumped in an unused room of a building in which one of the accused stayed.
The accused duo, who were later arrested from the area, had even called up the deceased’s family members to demand a ransom of Rs 15 lakh a day after the murder.
Pushpender went missing from his house on Sunday evening after being invited for dinner by a “friend.” A complaint was later registered with police. On Monday, his father, Ram Ganesh, received calls from Pushpender’s number.
“The caller demanded Rs 15 lakh from us. When we expressed our inability to pay the amount, they suddenly agreed to accept Rs 12 lakh. They were even ready to negotiate more, which raised doubts. We were suspecting the role of his friends,” said Ganesh.
Pooja, the deceased’s sister, added that on Monday, Saleem and Pankaj visited their house to express concerns over Pushpender’s disappearance. “When they heard of police’s involvement in the case, they left the place in a hurry. We informed police about their behaviour and they were detained,” she said.
During questioning, Saleem told the cops that he was having an affair with Pushpender’s wife. He claimed that Pushpender would misbehave with his wife due to which her health was deteriorating. Hence, he decided to teach him a lesson.
He roped in Pankaj, who also had a grudge against Pushpender. On Sunday, Pankaj invited Pushpender to his place for lunch on pretext of helping him settle an old monetary issue. After he reached there, Pankaj hit Pushpender with a gas cylinder on his head due to which he fell unconscious. The duo then slit his throat with a blade and left him to die. They returned after sometime only to dismember his body and stuff the body into a gunny bag. They made the ransom call the next day, presuming that the family had accumulated a lot of money by selling land.
