Highrises, plotted areas in Gurugram to get own composting plants

GURUGRAM: MCG on Monday gave its nod to set up composting units in all highrises and plotted areas in the city. The proposal, presented by councillors for better waste management in the city, was passed by MCG chief Vinay Pratap Singh during the House meeting that was attended by 30 councillors.
The MCG chief directed officials to set up a committee, that would be headed by a councillor, to work out the construction and operational cost that will be borne by the corporation. Following which the residential colonies, interested in setting up composting plant, will be contacted by the MCG and the plant will be set up.
As per MCG data, 60% of the total waste generated in the city is organic and composting can be done, 25% is recyclable and 15% is toxic. “As all waste from Gurugram lands up at the Bandhwari treatment plant, there is an immediate need for provision of setting up composting plants in highrises and colonies with financial help from MCG,” said a councillor, who was present in the meeting.
Issues related to roads, streetlights, sewage and water supply was also discussed in the meeting. “A team will study and decide how many more dispensaries are required and in which wards. Also the existing dispensaries will be upgraded,” Singh said..
The MCG commissioner appealed to the councillors to bring RWAs and residents together in making Gurugram a cleaner city. He also directed the officials to maintain zero tolerance as far as encroachment and unauthorised construction is concerned in the city.
