Bengaluru: Cabbie savouring biriyani hit by machete swung at hotelier

Accused Faizulla
BENGALURU: A 28-year-old cabbie who was feasting on mutton biriyani at his favourite ‘Taj Biriyani Hotel’ in Kogilu Cross, Yelahanka on Saturday night had the shock of his life when a machete landed on his neck, leaving him with a deep gash under the head and blood on his platter.
S Vishwanath, a resident of Marutinagar in Yelahanka, was rushed to Yelahanga government hospital and is said to be out of danger. The father of a minor son was fortunate to have survived the machete that was actually swung by at the hotel owner, S Nazim, by one Faizulla Khan.
Faizulla was furious that Nazim had employed his enemy, Nawaz Khan.
Residents of Bellahalli Cross, Yelahanka, Faizulla, a petty merchant, and Nawaz, shared an enmity over a monetary issue. In November last, Faizulla and Nawaz fought over the money. Based on a complaint from Faizulla, Yelahanka police arrested Nawaz.
“In January this year, Nazim appointed Nawaz as his helper in the hotel. This irked Faizulla, who told Nazim to sack Nawaz. But Nazim refused and in a fit of rage, Faizulla decided to attack him. Holding a machete, Faizulla attacked Nazim inside the hotel. As Nazim bent his body, the machete landed on the neck cabbie Vishwanath who was sitting on an adjacent table and eating biryani,” police said.
Nazim told cops that Vishwanath is his regular customer and drops by every night for mutton biriyani.
Faizulla has been arrested on attempt to murder charges and sent to judicial custody of Central Prison.
