Kia’s new flagship SUV, the Sorento, will make its global debut at the Geneva International Motor Show.

The new model, the fourth generation in a lineage that spans almost 20 years, is build on Kia’s latest generation SUV platform and, according to the automaker, “raises the standards in its segment for practicality.”

In addition, the powertrain options on the new Sorento will see the introduction of hybrid power. Still coy on which engine-gearbox options will be available locally, it is believed that three petrol and two diesel options can be added to the range.

Possible engine line-up

For the petrol, a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre unit will be joined by two turbocharged units, comprising a 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre displacement, respectively. The two diesel options, both turbocharged, displace 2.0-litres and 2.2-litres, respectively. Power figures remain unknown.

Kia also made it known that they will be targeting the global SUV market with a range of innovations to its new Sorento. These include, but are not limited to, advanced driver assistance systems, progressive connectivity, and various infotainment features.

More than 3 million Sorento models have been sold since the car came onto the market in 2002. Kia says it will revealed its new Sorento for the first time on 3 March 2020.
