Navi Mumbai: Puppies' tails grievously cut in Kalamboli; two rescued

Only two of the puppies could be rescued in the last two days.
NAVI MUMBAI: City activists have come cross a horrifying case of animal cruelty in Kalamboli area, where the tails of several puppies were recently chopped by unknown persons. Though the activists did confront a few children and adults at a slum in the node, the actual culprits have not yet been identified.
"We have been informed that a few puppies were grievously injured in a slum area in sector 10 E of Kalamboli. Field activist Priyanka Agnihotri came to know that the tails of several puppies were cut here. Only two of the puppies could be rescued in the last two days," said animals welfare worker Shubhadeep Pani.
He further added, "We suspect that somebody from the Kalamboli based slum might have harmed the pups for some crazy reason. We are lodging a police complaint on Tuesday evening and will also provide the medical records of this animal cruelty."
Another worker said, "We regularly teach the local children not to throw stones at any of the local community animals since such provocation can lead to a reaction from them. However, this barbaric act of using a sharp weapon to cut the tail of puppies is shocking to say the least. The local municipal body must also regularly undertake vaccination and sterilization drives in Kalamboli in order to ensure that the local community dogs and cats remain healthy."
Honorary district animal welfare officer Mitesh Jain commented, "We are getting to know of animal cruelty cases from various parts of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai. The law, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, must be strengthened in order to ensure that the culprits get appropriate punishment for abusing animals."
