AGRA: Over 40 days after he was booked as prime accused in
anti-CAA violence by
Firozabad police and sent to jail, 52-year-old
Ahmad Nabi, the second-stage oral cancer patient, was granted bail by
Allahabad high court on January 29.
The copy of the order was made available on Tuesday afternoon.
Nabi’s defence counsel
Preetam Yadav said, “Ahmad Nabi committed no offence; entire prosecution story is fake. He was neither part of the protest march nor was he in any way involved in the march being carried out against CAA-NRC.”
According to the FIR, “Cancer patient Ahmad Nabi and 19-year-old Faraz Khan, nephew of wood shop owner whose shop was vandalised and set on fire by unruly group of men in front of heavy police force, were prime accused for leading the violent anti-CAA protesters on December 20.”
Notably, it took local administration 15 days, two reminders from Firozabad district court and multiple reports in the media to admit Ahmad Nabi in SN Medical College, who had suffered multiple fractures in alleged action by police. After surgery, Nabi is still in SN Medical College, Agra under observation.
Speaking with TOI, Nabi’s family expressed happiness on the court's order. “Now, we can take him for radiotherapy, which has been pending for more than a month,” said
Vakil Nabi, younger brother of Ahmad. Ahmad Nabi owns crockery store in Hajipura area of Rasoolpur police jurisdiction, where violence was reported on December 20 afternoon.
