RANCHI: Steps towards improvement of health care in
state-run MGMMCH in Jamshedpur were visible on Tuesday, a day after health minister Banna Gupta held an hour-and-half long meeting with brass of the hospital.

MGM hospital superintendent Sanjay Kumar while taking early morning rounds of the wards on Tuesday met the doctors and other staff and tried to take stock of the problems faced by them everyday while discharging their duties.
Sources said Kumar even met the patients admitted in various wards and asked them about their health condition.
Kumar instructed that doctors and medical staff should be present at the hospital on all three shifts (round-the-clock) so that patients get proper medical facilities. Kumar instructed the doctors and medical staff to change their work culture and adopt patient-friendly one.
Kumar said: “Negligence of doctors and staff at the hospital will not be tolerated at any cost.”
Harish Shahu, whose mother is admitted in the orthopedic ward, talking to TOI said: “I hope there will be positive change in the ailing hospital after minister’s visit.” He said: “I wish Gupta does what Raghubar Das as chief minister and Jamshedpur east MLA could not do in last five years.”
Notably, the state health minister during his maiden visit to
MGMMCH in Jamshedpur after assuming charge took stock of health care facilities available at the institution. Gupta was apprised by the brass of MGMMCH how the institution was running with severe manpower crunch, which had cascading effect on the quality of health care at the hospital.
The officials of MGMMCH complained that the burden of patients was more than twice of the resources available.
Sources said after giving a patient ear to the problems faced by the doctors and medical staff, the minister assured that health centres across the districts would be upgraded so that less number of people are compelled to come to MGMMCH. Sources said the minister informed that doctors and dressers will be available at all health centres.
Later the minister took a round of the wards of the hospital and tried to inquire about the problems faced by the patients and their kins. He assured that help would be sought from the Tata Main Hospital in providing good health care in the region.
MGMMCH caters to the needs of thousands of patients from the entire Kolhan region everyday, who visit here to seek medical consultancy at out patient departments or treatment in the indoor departments.
