HYDERABAD: A 53-year-old fish vendor was allegedly abducted and murdered by assailants at Jawahar Nagar in SR Nagar. The man is suspected to have been strangulated and his highly decomposed body was found in a two-room tenement in a building on Tuesday. Police suspect flesh trade could be the motive behind the murder. They have taken a woman into custody and launched a manhunt for another suspect.
Police said P Ramesh, a fish vendor and a resident of Borabanda, was found dead with his face facing the floor inside a locked two-room tenement in a multi-storied building.
CLUES team confirmed murderEarlier, neighbours noticed foul smell and forcibly opened the door only to find a man’s body on the floor.
They alerted police about the body, who established that it was the body of missing Ramesh. A CLUES Team reached the spot and confirmed that it was a murder. The culprits place naphthalene balls around the body to negate the foul smell.
Ramesh went missing on Saturday evening and his family members approached police on Sunday as his mobile phone was found switched off, police said.
At 10.30am on Sunday, Ramesh’s daughter-in-law received a WhatsApp message from the fish vendor’s phone, informing her that he would reach home in some time as he was drunk and throwing up too. When she tried to reach her father-in-law, she found the mobile phone switched off.
At 9.30am on Monday, Ramesh’s family received another message, demanding Rs 90 lakh for his release. The abductors also informed that he was being taken to Hanamkonda and they would inform when and where to deliver the cash.
When the family informed police, the men in khaki intensified their search, formed teams and started analysing call data records of the victim.
By hiding their identity, police also started chatting with the culprits on WhatsApp, saying they could arrange Rs 30 lakh for now.
On Tuesday, the kidnappers sent messages at 4 pm and 7pm to check whether Rs 90 lakhs was arranged. Meanwhile, news broke out that Ramesh was murdered and they were buying time to negotiate with Ramesh’s family.
“During investigation, we found that the two-room house was taken on rent by one Srinivas a month ago. Srinivas was last seen by his neighbour a week ago. Srinivas used to occasionally come in the afternoon with a woman,” deputy commissioner of police (West Zone) AR Srinivas told TOI.
Srinivas, without opening the lock of the portion he took on rent, met the house owner and paid Rs 3,500 rent. Based on call data record (CDR) of the victim, police took a woman into custody and launched a manhunt for Srinivas.
