Vadodara: Robbers speeding away in a truck and chased by two police cars with beacon lights with blaring siren. This may seem like a scene from a crime thriller, but this was the scene on the national highway-48 between Jambuva and Kapurai chowkdi on Tuesday early morning.
Two PCR vans chased around a dozen robbers for nearly 10 km after catching them red-handed siphoning off betel nuts and dry fruits from a parked container truck.
According to Rupsinh Baria, in-charge of one of the PCR vans, he suspected something fishy on seeing a few men shifting bags from the container truck to another in the parking bay near Jambuva bridge. Seeing the PCR vans approaching from a distance, the robbers quickly got into their trucks. Baria, an assistant sub-inspector, asked his driver Dhanpalsinh Manusinh to stop the van right behind the truck.
However, the truck driver reversed the vehicle, crashed it into the PCR van and sped towards Ahmedabad. The police vehicle’s bonnet and headlights were damaged, yet the two cops chased them and informed police control room. On the way, some men from the truck pelted stones at the PCR van due to which the windshield got damaged.
Another PCR van joined the chase from Tarsali on getting the wireless message. The other PCR van’s driver Chetansinh Vikramsinh tried to overtake the truck on Kapurai bridge. But the truck driver shoved the car away by brushing his heavy vehicle on the driver’s side. The other police vehicle was also damaged badly due to the impact.
Cops followed the truck even as it turned towards Dabhoi at Kapurai chowkdi. But with broken headlights, the cops could not follow the truck much. After a distance, the two vehicles turned back towards Makarpura police station where they registered an offence of attempt to murder, assaulting to deter public servant from performing his duty and Damage to Public Property Act.
“We have got the truck’s registration number, but it turns out that it was fake. We are checking the footages of CCTV camera to find out more details about the truck,” said inspector R A Patel of Makarpura police station.
