PUNE: The Pune railway station is on high alert after 10 used bullets of an
AK-47 assault rifle were found in a sleeper coach of the
Azad Hind Express on Tuesday morning.
The
cartridges were discovered on one of the coaches after the train was moved into the railway yard.
“The train had reached Pune around 9.30am and was taken to the yard for washing and cleaning. The staffers found the ammunition in the waste bin of a washroom of the S2 coach,” RPF’s divisional security commissioner Arun Tripathi told TOI.
“The matter has been forward to the Government Railway Police, but we are also investigating the matter,” Tripathi said.
Of the 10 bullets recovered, seven were spent rounds, while three were cartdidge shells. “These are not live cartridges, but it is a serious matter, regardless. We have sought the passenger chart of this coach and are in contact with our counterparts in other cities to check if an FIR was lodged in this regard,” Tripathi added.
The train connects
Howrah Junction in Kolkata to Pune. “The RPF contingent at the station is on alert and checks are being conducted,” a source said, without divulging any details on the steps being taken.
“We have prepared a panchanama and submitted the cartridges as unclaimed property. No FIR has been lodged, but we have made an entry of the cartridges found in the general register maintained at the police station. We have launched an investigation to establish the identity of the passenger travelling with the cartridges,” inspector Surendrasinh Goud from the Pune railway police station said.
