GUWAHATI: A fire which broke out on
Burhidihing river at Tengakhat of Duliajan in Dibrugarh on Sunday due to leakage from underwater crude oil carrying pipeline has been brought under control.
There was panic among the locals after dark smoke and flames started rising from the river.
The incidents of fire due to leakage from the pipelines are often related to crude oil theft by miscreants who try to drill holes into the pipes.
Experts are now examining the level of threat to ecosystem because of Burhidhing river fire, following the oil spill.
The site of incident is more than 600km away from Guwahati.
