Two mega rallies planned for Biju’s 104th birth anniversary

Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD has planned a mega show on the 104th birth anniversary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik that will be celebrated on March 5.
The day also marks completion of 20 years of Naveen Patnaik as chief minister of Odisha.
Though details of the programme are yet to be finalised, the regional party has decided to organize two mega rallies in the state.
While one rally will be held in Cuttack, where the ancestral house (Anand Bhawan) of the legendary leader is located, another rally is likely to be organised in the western Odisha (mostly likely in Bargarh), said official sources. Naveen would attend both rallies.
“The birth anniversary of Biju Patnaik will be celebrated across the state. Several important programmes are being planned and it would soon be finalised. Apart from March 5, there will be week-long programme to mark the occasion,” said BJD general secretary (headquarters) Sanjay Das Burma.
In power for the past 20 years, Naveen had assumed charge as chief minister of Odisha on March 5, 2000, three years after formation of BJD following the death of Biju Patnaik. With a robust organisational base, pro-people schemes and Naveen’s clean image, the party stormed to power for the fifth consecutive time in May last year.
Senior leaders of the party from various districts met here at the party headquarters to discuss plans to celebrate the day. As March 5 is also celebrated as Panchayati Raj day by the state government, several programmes are being planned. Das Burma said the women’s wing, youth and students wings of the regional party will be involved during the week-long celebration in all 33 organizational districts.
Workshops on the success and achievements of BJD government in the past two decades, particularly in poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, sports promotion and disaster preparedness would be organised.
Youth and student conclaves and meetings on various pro-people policies of the government would be organised during the week-long celebration, said BJD insiders.
BJD insiders said the seven-day programme would be a people-connect exercise to further consolidate the party’s base in the state.
