Ambedkar had thought of Dalitstan for dalits: Manohar Ajgaonkar

PORVORIM: Deputy chief minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Monday said that although Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, who is known as the Architect of the Indian Constitution, had thought of the concept of ‘Dalitstan’ for dalits, India has remained united.
While participating in the discussion on a motion moved to congratulate PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Ajgaonkar said, “For the dalits, Babasaheb Ambedkar had said there would be Dalitstan, but we are all together in India.”
He said Ambedkar had travelled widely and was learned, and could hence frame the Constitution of India as a country encompassing people of all faiths. He also said that is because of the Constitution that Hindus, Christians, Muslims, dalits and others live peacefully in India. “Nobody can remove anyone from this country,” Ajgaonkar said.
He further said that when Pakistan was created, all Muslims went there and it was declared an Islamic state, but Hindustan did not become a Muslim or Hindu nation. “Some people say India will become a Hindu nation, but when you say Hindu, it includes everyone — Hindus, Muslims, Christians, dalits and others,” he said.
