VIJAYAWADA:
YSRC workers on Monday held a
rally in Krishna Lanka here celebrating chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision to sanction Rs 125 crore to build
retaining walls along the banks of the Krishna.
Parts of Krishna Lanka, Balaji Nagar and Ranigari Thota were inundated due to heavy rains in the monsoon. The construction of levees during the TDP’s regime was incomplete and as a result, failed to control flood waters from inundating the areas.
The government sanctioned funds to complete the works after requests from the Irrigation department and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). YSRC Vijayawada east incharge Devineni Avinash, who oversaw the rally, said Jagan was keen on developing Vijayawada. Ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana attended the rally.
“The TDP government ignored the welfare of Krishna Lanka. Floods in the monsoon season highlighted the need for retaining walls. Jagan listened to the problems of the locals and sanctioned a huge amount for their welfare,” Avinash said.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam slammed YSRC leaders and asked them to stop making false claims. Vijayawada East legislator Gadde Rama Mohana Rao said the project was given top priority during the TDP regime and a major portion of the works was completed. “YSRC leaders deceived the public by hiding facts. The project proposed during
YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s regime was ignored by the Congress-led state government. It is Chandrababu Naidu who prepared the revised estimates for the project and sanctioned Rs 135 crore under the first phase,” Gadde said. The state government has not released enough funds for the second phase of works, but it is not sufficient to take up the works. I demand the government release around Rs 160 crore to complete the second phase, he demanded.
