Labourer gets 10 years in jail for raping 14-year-old

Vadodara: A sessions court here sentenced a casual labourer to rigorous imprisonment for raping and minor girl from Shinor after luring her with marriage promise in August 2014.
The convict Babu alias Bharat Vasava was also fined of Rs 11,000 by the court of additional sessions judge S D Suthar.
According to the details of the case, Vasava had met the 14-year-old girl at a fair in Shinor and lured her with marriage promise. When the girl did not return home from the fair, her family members searched for her. Later, the girl’s father learned through a villager that he had seen Vasava taking her away from the fair. The girl’s father then approached Shinor police station and a search was initiated for the duo. A few weeks later they were found from Rajkot and the girl’s medical check-up confirmed rape. In her statement too she said that Vasava had raped her several times at different places.
“During the trial, several evidence including forensic reports, medical reports and testimonies of witnesses and material witnesses were presented,” said additional public prosecutor K M Joshi. While convicting Vasava, the court awarded a compensation of Rs 25,000 to the rape survivor under the rehabilitation scheme of the state government.
