Drunk man beats mother to death after fight, held

Allahabad: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her son after an argument over dinner in Parsai Subedar village, under Nawabganj police station, in Pratapgarh late Sunday night.
The accused, Malkhan Patel, had fled after beating up his mother and was arrested on Monday afternoon.
Station officer of Nawabganj police station Ashutosh Tripathi said Malkhan was addicted to alcohol. On Sunday night, he got into a fight with his mother Prema Devi over what she had cooked for dinner. As the fight escalated, Malkhan started thrashing is mother.
On Monday morning, local residents found the elderly woman lying on the floor and informed the police. When police reached the spot, they found Prema dead. Malkhan’s sister Renu lodged a case against him.
Police said the accused was later arrested in the afternoon. Police said Prema had several injury marks on her body.
Meanwhile, a woman allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after getting into an argument with her son in Alwara village, under Mahevaghat police station, in Kaushambi district on Monday. The woman, Laxmi Devi, is undergoing treatment at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Allahabad.
