Vadodara: A day after a pandal was removed and electricity connection snapped at the protest site in Tandalja, an individual wrote an application to city police informing about gathering of women at a private plot to protest the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The office of police commissioner received the application on Monday morning informing that women from Saudagar Park and neighbouring residential societies of Tandalja will be gathering at a private common plot. Police said that the application has not been moved by any group or an organization but an individual and it is currently under process.
However, sources among the protesters told TOI that the application has not been done to seek permission for gathering but only to inform cops. “Since it is private premises and we will not be using loudspeakers, we do not need any permission from the police. The application is a way of informing them that the women are going to gather in a private premise so we should not be harassed this time,” said a person involved in mobilizing the women.
“We have received the application of the gathering at the private plot and it is being evaluated,” said inspector D K Vaghela of JP Road police station.
On Sunday, police had said that the organizers who had held protests on Saturday will be facing action as they had not sought permission for the sit-in. The pandal was removed on Sunday morning by the supplier as he was asked for the facility only for a day and that too for a private program and the electricity was also disconnected.
The women, however, continued with their sit-in when the cops began looking for the organizers, no one claimed responsibility for the dharna.
