BJP & RJD busy making booth level agents in Bihar

PATNA: BJP and RJD are focused on their booth level preparations for the upcoming assembly elections later this year. The two parties, slated to function as fulcrum for their respective coalitions are busy appointing their booth level agents (BLA-II) to interact with voters in their respective areas. There are 72,723 polling booths in the state.
"We have already constituted more than 67,000 booth level committees (BLCs) covering around 90% of the polling booths in state. Now, we have moved to the second stage of appointing BLA-II for the respective polling booths," BJP state vice-president Anil Sharma said. Sharma was the co-incharge of state BJP's four-tier organizational elections. A BLC has 11-20 members. Sharma also said the party's MLAs and district presidents have been asked to submit the list of BLAs to the district administrations. "Instructions have been issued in this regard," he added.
During the 2015 assembly elections, RJD had appointed the highest number of BLAs among the political parties in the state - 53,000 compared to BJP's 48,000.
There are two kinds of BLAs: BLA-I appointed by the administration to work for the Election Commission and BLA-II appointed by the respective political parties to assist the voters or even mobilize them to cast their votes in favour of their party candidates on the polling day.
RJD vice-president and former MLC Tanveer Hassan said his party had already instructed its district presidents to continue with membership drive, while ensuring that the BLAs-II were also appointed without missing the deadline set by the Election Commission for that.
Even in terms of the party's primary members, the two parties appeared to be evenly matched, reaching the figure of around 1 crore. "Last year, we had set the target of making 50 lakh primary members, but the number has reached around 1 crore - or around 80-90 lakh. Members are being made even today," Hassan added.
