Kolkata: Man beaten up over theft suspicion

KOLKATA: A middle-aged Group D staff of the TB hospital in Jadavpur was beaten up by a group of men on suspicion of being a thief in the early hours of Saturday. Police said Manoj Mallick, who lives in the staff quarters, was allegedly walking suspiciously around a bike parked in Santoshpur. When he fumbled on being grilled by the bike owner, a group of locals thrashed him.
When his wife and son came to his rescue, they were also allegedly assaulted. The man underwent treatment at Medical College and Hospital. "He was drunk and had allegedly moved suspiciously around the bike," said an officer. Police later arrested bike owner Subhra Dutta (28) and his friend Biswajit Midya (30).
