TO THE EDITOR:
Is General Motors serious? If "GM envisions its AV as the next Model T" (Jan. 27), then the future is going to be pretty bleak. Does GM really think people who now enjoy the personal space and freedom of their own automobile are going to want to replace it with a robotaxi? One they have to wait for? Where they have to sit in someone else's dirt and have no control of the speed or route?
Does GM really think they will survive as a commodity robotaxi maker? I am for GM succeeding, but they better get real and promote and hope that "personal" transportation (electric, autonomous, whatever) succeeds for their sake and ours.
