Residents plant 130 saplings

PUNE: The Lohegaon Residents Welfare Association (LRWA) has planted 130 saplings at Avani hill situated at the end of Porwal Road in Lohegaon, with the help of an active tree plantation group Green Avani Foundation on the occasion of Republic Day. 

The sole objective of Green Avani Foundation is to increase green cover of Lohegaon area. Residents of approximately 60 societies of Lohegaon were invited in this ‘Green Republic Day’ and more than 500 residents of the different age groups from Dhanori and Lohegaon societies participated in this Save Nature drive organised by Green Avani Foundation.

The drive was started with a motivational session on awareness of tree plantation to increase the green coverage of Lohegaon and to motivate residents to plant at least one tree per person in the family. Also, a brief session on soil & water harvesting techniques was given by environmental expert Pushkar Kulkarni and also shown a demonstration on how to plant a tree scientifically. 

Shailesh Bhandari, Chief guest of this programme, appreciated the green cover initiatives taken by Avani Foundation, and committed to sponsor 100 plants per month, aiming to plant more than 1,200 trees in 2020 in Lohegaon, to create a dense forest on hill area. BU Bhandari is completing 100 years this year. Hence, Shailesh Bhandari took a pledge to plant 100 native trees per month and take care for next two years.
