Surat: A 20-year-old engineering student ended life by hanging himself in his hostel room on Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) campus on Udhna Magdalla Road here on Monday. The student in his suicide note said he was fed up of life. Dipak Boricha was a third year engineering student at Bhagvan Mahavir College. He had been securing first class in engineering studies and the exact reason why he committed suicide is still not known,
police said.He was not answering phone calls of a friend after which the latter went to check on him in his hostel room at Samras Hostel because midterm examinations are on in the university. Boricha’s friend informed hostel officials when he did not open the door. The hostel officials broke open the door at around 10.30am and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with a bed sheet. He had written 7.40am atop his suicide note. Police suspect that he may have committed suicide after that.
Boricha’s brother Yogesh, a bachelor’s of commerce student, lives in the same hostel. He told police that he was not aware why his brother was upset. “They had dinner together in the hostel last night after which they went to their respective rooms. Dipak expressed his love for family and friends in the suicide note, but didn’t mention the reason why he was ending his life,” said a police officer at Umra police station.
“The hostel staff was informed by a friend of Dipak that he was not opening the door. Our staff broke open the door of his room and found him hanging,” said an officer of hostel administration.
Dipak was a native of Bhavnagar. His family members are expected to reach the city by late night. “We have not found any reason behind his suicide. There was no pressure on him because he was good in studies. He neither had an affair and nor was facing any financial crisis,” police said.
