Matiala is a state assembly constituency of Delhi occurring within the precincts of the North West Delhi parliamentary constituency. The total number of voters in this assembly seat is 178935. This figure is made of 96110 men, 82816 women and 9 third gender electors. The present five year term of the elected government in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha will end on 22 February 2020. Hence all the 70 assembly seats of Delhi will go for general election polling in February 2020. The said elections will decide who will become MLAs from these seats to represent them in the Delhi assembly that will be formed post elections.

The last general elections in Matiala was conducted in 2015 and the winning candidate of this election was AAP’s Gulab Singh. He scored 127665 votes and overtook the runner up candidate. Rajesh Gahlot was the runner up who got 806661. The vote margin between them was 47004. In 2013 general elections for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, BJP’s Rajesh Gahlot won by scoring 70053 votes. He defeated the AAP candidate Gulab Singh who got a total number of 66051 votes in these polls.

The winner during the 2008 elections was Sumesh of INCX who scored 53411 votes in the polls. The runner up candidate of BJP Kamal Jeet could get 45782 votes in this election. From 2008 elections, the major parties of Delhi won from this seat in line and represented this seat for one term each. The seat was held by INC in 2008, BJP in 2013 and AAP in 2015.
