THRISSUR: The health of the student who was tested positive for novel
coronavirus (nCoV) is improving, said agriculture minister V S Sunil Kumar during a news conference on Sunday. The girl is undergoing treatment in the isolation ward at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital.
The test results of the second set of samples taken from her have not been received so far from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. A 10-member medical board has been constituted to monitor the condition and supervise the treatment of the student who was the first confirmed nCoV-infected patient in the country. Medical college sources said that she was moving around and her confidence level has also gone up.
In all, 15 patients have been admitted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital, as part of surveillance measures to tackle the virus, and test results of 10 of them are yet to be received.
District health authorities have sent 30 fresh samples for tests to the NIV's Alappuzha unit.
The minister hailed the contributions of the doctors and paramedical staff including nurses for their yeoman service in providing healthcare to those under observation, braving great risks and neglecting the demanding nature of the work.
Meanwhile, police arrested two women for spreading false information about coronavirus infection and treatment.
The two arrested women are Illikkal Veetil Shajita Jamal (41) of Perinjanam, Kuzikkandathil Veetil Shamla (43) of SN Puram near Kodungalloor.
A case under sections 268 and 505 of IPC and sections 118 and 120 of
Kerala Police Act have been filed against the accused.
