Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from West Bengal Arjun Singh has claimed the shooters who opened fire at students in Jamia Nagar and Shaheen Bagh despite heavy police presence are "misguided".

The BJP MP also blamed the Opposition for the months-long protest at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Arjun Singh said, "Jaise Muslim logon ko vipaksh ke logon ne protection de karke Shaheen Bagh mein baithaya hai, Jamia mein ghatna ghati, jiska CAA se matlab nahi. Humare kum umar ke bachhe bharamit ho karke goli chalaye hain. (The Opposition is protecting Muslims at Shaheen Bagh and have made them sit there (in protest). The firing incident in Jamia had nothing to do with the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Some of our juvenile youths were misguided and opened fire."

In the past one week, there have been four incidents when armed gunmen were seen brandishing guns in Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Nagar. In three of them the gunmen opened fire.

In one such incident, a student was injured after a bullet hit his palm.

The two people who have been arrested by the Delhi Police for opening fire were heard raising anti-Muslim slogans while brandishing their guns and opening fire. One of them is reported to be a minor.

On Sunday night, unidentified goons riding a scooter opened fire outside the Jamia University and fled the spot. No one was harmed in the latest firing incident. Police are yet to make any arrests in this case.
