NEW DELHI: Sharing the stage in north Delhi's Burari with Union home minister Amit Shah, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday said that AAP government had done no work in the last five years and only made tall promises.
"There hasn't been any real development here. If you take a look at Burari, the condition here is the same as that in Bihar in 2005, before NDA ... They (AAP government) talk about water supply, but there's no water. Roads, electricity ... nothing is in good shape. What work have they done?" he asked, while addressing a rally.
"Congress got 15 years, AAP got five, so please give five years to BJP now and see how it changes the city. In Delhi, they only talk about freebies, but have not brought about any real development. For many years, 40 lakh people lived in unauthorised colonies in Delhi. But they have been regularised by the Centre," he said.
The party, which has a pre-poll pact with BJP, has fielded Shailendra Kumar in Burari. Kumar said: "Earlier, people used to say that there was jungle rule in Bihar. However, after the formation of NDA government, there is development with justice, every village has been connected with a paved road, there is a proper system of education and health. If a poor state can do so much work, why not the country's capital?"
Kumar claimed his government wanted to start an interstate bus service for the Poorvanchali people, but was denied permission by Delhi government. “A lot of people from Bihar are in Delhi for whom we wanted to start a bus service, but we were not given permission. We have a bus linking Patna to Ghaziabad, but not directly to Delhi,” he said.
On Arvind Kejriwal’s comment in September about people from Bihar coming to Delhi for medical treatment, Kumar said: “The chief minister of Delhi says the people of Bihar come to the capital with a ticket of Rs 500 and get treatment of Rs 5 lakh for free. What a lie! They don’t spend on patients. The Centre spends money through Ayushman Bharat… And do the people have to take Kejriwal’s permission to come to Delhi?” he said.
Shah said Kejriwal had left no stone unturned in disrespecting Poorvanchalis. “You have got Rs 5 lakh from your home? Why disrespect them? I want to tell you, my Poorvanchali brothers and sisters, that you have the same rights here as you do in UP and Bihar,” he said. Shah said like Sabarmati riverfront, the banks of Yamuna will be developed when BJP wins the election.
