KURUKSHETRA: The cases of jaundice are growing exponentially in urban estate of Thanesar in Kurukshetra district with the total reaching 95 by Saturday. Haryana health department officials said all the cases were reported from Sector 3 of Thanesar city and they had started a temporary OPD at the local gurdwara.
The health officials are also collecting water and blood samples from the area every day. As a precaution, along with Sector 3, they have started conducting door-to-door survey in Sector 4, 5, 30, and Rampur Dera areas which fall under the jurisdiction of the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). So far, three deaths have been reported from the water-borne disease in Sector 3.
Kurukshetra district survey officer Dr S K Sahota said, “On Saturday, three new cases were confirmed, taking the total to 95 in about a week. The health department is checking for the water supply pipe leakages every day and informing HSVP to carry out repairs.”
Kurukshetra civil surgeon Dr Sukhbir said, “The tablets of Halazone and oral rehydration solution (ORS) are being distributed among the residents. A mass awareness campaign is also being conducted. As per the orders of the Kurukshetra deputy commissioner, every day inspection and follow-up of entire Sector 3 area is being conducted.”
The health department has appealed to the residents to consume boiled water after cooling it and keep special care of hygiene before consuming food.
Meanwhile, Kurukshetra MP Nayab Singh Saini, accompanied by Kurukshetra deputy commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata, also visited the families of the deceased. He said, “Kurukshetra DC has been instructed to prepare a list of the officials who are responsible for the negligence leading to the loss of lives.” On condition of water supply pipes, the MP said, “The CM has sought an estimate for permanently fixing the water supply issue. The problem will be fixed soon.”
