MYSURU: The Union Budget presented by finance minister
Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha came as a huge disappointment for the districts of south interior
Karnataka.
In her second budget as the finance minister, Sitharaman did not announce any special projects or package for the region ravaged by floods for second year in a row.
Amidst hopes that Union government will extend financial assistance to build a second railway station worth Rs 780 crore at Naganahalli, all eyes are on the new railway projects which will be made public through the pink book.
Bhaskar Kalale, chairman of Mysuru chapter of CII said there weren’t any big announcements in the budget. But he welcomed several schemes, projects and initiatives announced in the budget. Appreciating the various new announcements made in connection with agriculture, small and medium scale industries, health, education
and revision in the I-T slabs and the rate, he said: “Government has done a good job by prioritising agriculture,
economic development and education and then further sub-dividing each of these as action plans.”
Mysuru Industries Association president Vasu observed that the small industrialists had a lot of expectations from the budget. “All are now disappointed,” he said.
“Changes in the IT slab and rates will be a mixed bag for the tax payers. There is no new financial support schemes for the manufacturing sector which is in a distress,” he said.
“Increasing audit limit for the minor industries up to Rs 5 crores, incentives for solar power production, setting up of the export centers in the district head quarters are the major positives,” the former MLA observed.
“The allocation made for the education, health and social welfare sectors are insufficient. The budget ignored the welfare of the minorities,” claimed Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayana. “Tourism sector which is the lifeline of many cities including Mysuru was also ignored,” he added.
However, Mysuru MP
Pratap Simha downplayed the criticism. “Under Modi government, we need not look at the budget for new projects and schemes. New trains, railway lines, eight flights — all to Mysuru were sanctioned much before the budget. So there is no need to get disappointed,” he said.
