THANJAVUR: Two idols of Vishnu and Ambal were unearthed from near Papanasam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday while workers were digging the ground for construction of a house.
The metal idols were unearthed from the property of R Ramalingam, 62, of Kidangatham, who is a farmer. The idols were found at a depth of around four feet.
Ramalingam informed Ponmanmeinthanallur village administrative officer Anbarasu, who in turn alerted Papanasam tahsildar Kannan.
Kannan and other revenue officials reached the spot and took possession of the three-foot-tall Vishnu idol and two-foot-tall Ambal idol. They filed a report to the district collector.
Revenue officials said the antiquity and other details of the idols would be known only after a detailed archaeological examination.
