BATHINDA: Mansa police have registered a case against
Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as
Sidhu Moose Wala, and Mankirat Aulakh for a video clip shown in social media which propagates violence.
The case was registerted at Mansa sadar police station on Saturday under sections 294 (sings, recites or utters any obscene song), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC.
On January 12, Chandigarh-based advocate Hari Chand Arora had sent a notice to the Punjab Police DGP and the senior superintendent of police, Mansa, to take action against Moosewala and his companion for a video on YouTube, which propagates violence. Citing a 2019 judgment of the Punjab and Haryana high court, wherein the DGP was directed to ensure that no songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs and violence are played and SSPs to be personally responsible to ensure due compliance of directions, Arora had asked the officers to act in the matter in 10 days, failing which he would move appropriate proceedings under the Contempt of Courts Act before the high court for purported non-compliance of the directions. He had sent the copy of high court order of July 22, 2019 and CD of the video being shown on YouTube.
Although the song — Pakhia pakhia pakhia, gun wich panj goliya ni tere panj veera lei rakhiya... (Pakhia pakhia pakhia, there are five bullets in the gun, which I have kept for your five brothers...) — was released in 2013, it was uploaded on YouTube on November 27, 2019.
“I had sent the notice to the DGP and the Mansa SSP along with a copy of judgment and copy of CD of the video uploaded on YouTube after recording... Now, a case has been registered on his complaint,” said Arora.
Mansa Sadar police station SHO Balwinder Singh said, “A case has been registered against Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu and Mankirat Singh under relevant sections and the matter is being investigated.”
Moosewala was not available for comments.
