
Australian Open 2020 Men’s Singles Final, Dominic Thiem vs Novak Djokovic Highlights: Novak Djokovic beat Dominic Thiem 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in an epic four-hour final to win his 8th Australian Open Men’s Singles title at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday. Djokovic took the first set 6-4 and raced to a similarly dominant start in the second set. However, Thiem fought back in the second set to take it 6-4 and level the match. Djokovic’s wheels came off a little in the third set as Thiem took control to see out the set 6-2 and go one set up. The pendulum swung again in the fourth set as the World Number 2 took command to win the fourth set 6-3 to force a fifth set. Djokovic broke Thiem early in the fifth set. Thiem came up with a brave performance to keep pace with Djokovic then on, but was not able to break him despite getting a few break points.
Djokovic has now won his 17th Grand Slam title, inching closer to Roger Federer’s all-time record mark of 20 Majors. Djokovic had dropped just one set on way to the final. He was stretched to the limits on Sunday in the final though. His recovery has been billed as the Miracle of Melbourne, considering that he looked down and out of the contest when he had to walk off the court with his medical team after complaining of exhaustion at a stage when he was a set down.

New balls are called for and the purchase on offer on the new balls helps Djokovic. We have seen it in all the sets and we are seeing it again. His groundstrokes seem to become so much more devastating. An effortless game again. 4-3 to him in the fourth. That was a game over in no time after a long Thiem game.
Amazing, incredible effort from Thiem. Djokovic is throwing the kitchen sink at Thiem, but Thiem is playing like a man possessed. A deep volley, then an incredible effort to get back to the end of the court to smash it cross court. Djokovic looked like he had got a chance to break Thiem in the 4th set, but Thiem played some brave tennis to take the game. He holds serve. Time for Djokovic to hold ser ve now. He would be bitterly disappointed he couldn't break Thiem there.
