LUDHIANA: In a first, 9,280
teachers in government schools in the district will be seen wearing identity cards during duty hours.
The education department has released Rs Rs 2.78 lakh for printing and lamination of the cards.
The maximum teachers who will be issued the ID cards are in
Ludhiana district 3,793 elementary and 5,487 secondary.
Applicable for all regular and contractual teachers of elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools, the department has directed the district education officers (DEOs) to ask all 3,793 teachers in elementary and 5,487 teachers in secondary schools in the district to get the coloured print of their ID cards from a portal of the department and get it laminated after getting the signature of the competent issuing authority (drawing and disbursing officer).
The move of making ID cards of all teachers has been initiated under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and an amount of Rs 2.78 lakh has been approved for Ludhiana.
So far, the department had not provided any identity card to teachers. The new cards will have details including name of the teacher, name of the school and its code, full address of the school with block, village, district, and the designation of the teacher. The cards will also help identify if the teacher is a regular or contract one, sources said.
