Youth Programs

Winter Story Hours. The Swansea Free Public Library pre-school Winter story hours take place every Monday for children up to age 5 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.. Come join the fun with stories, crafts and fun in the children’s room. This winter the library will celebrate Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, and Valentine’s Day. Sign up today as space is limited.

Every Tuesday Homeschoolers meet from 2-4 p.m. in the Junior Room. Everyone is welcome to math games and art, geography club and the 4H STE(A)M program. Check the library calendar for more information.

Tween Book Club/Write Club takes place the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays of each month from 4-5 p.m. This month the club is reading Alice in Wonderland. Tween Book Club/Write Club is for readers aged 8-12. Discuss great books, write stories, share ideas. Activities and snacks provided.

STEM/STEAM Book Club takes place the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 4-5 p.m. This month’s read is the Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. We will also be doing math activities to go with the book. Each month we will read one fiction book, and an optional non-fiction book along with a picture book for younger children. This month’s non-fiction book is "The Book of Chocolate," by HP Newquist. The picture book is Snowflake Bentley.

Pokemon Club

The Pokemon Club meets the second Saturday of each month (unless otherwise noted) from 10:30-noon. Join Pokemon fans for a morning of card trading, card playing, and Pokemon Bingo. Win Pokemon cards and candy treats. It's fun for fans of all ages.  

Monster Squad

Calling all Monster Fans.   Open to all monster fans ages 6-12. Monster Squad meets on the second Saturday of each month unless otherwise noted from 1 - 3 p.m. Check our website for more information on monsters.

The library offers patrons many opportunities to explore different hobbies and we provide a different event each day. Coloring Club takes place each Monday, The Tuesday Club Genealogy group happens each Tuesday, Crafts are on Wednesday, Knitting Club takes place on Thursday, Simply Done Recipe and Coupon Club is also on Thursday and Quilting on Fridays along with other special programs during the week.

Adult Coloring Club

A great way to start each week is with Coloring for Adults. This stress reducing, calming activity is a great way to relax and find your inner artist. Coloring pages, pens and pencils are provided or you can bring your own. Adults of all ages are invited to the free program. Coloring club takes place every Monday from 12-2 p.m.

Tuesday Club

Learn how to research your roots. Join the Tuesday Club every Tuesday from 12-2 p.m. in the Reference Room at the SFPL. Whether brand new or an experienced family history detective, we can help you as you undertake a journey of a lifetime. Utilize the library resources. Help is available. There is no fee or registration. This program is open to all.

Card Making with Bonnie

The first and third Wednesday is card making at the library. Join Bonnie as she teaches us the simple and lovely craft of card making. All supplies provided. Make a lovely card for that someone special. Learn different techniques to make cards that will delight. Sign up is not necessary for this drop in program.

Crafternoons

The second and fourth Wednesdays are Crafternoons at the library from 12-2 p.m. Bring a project you are working on and share with others. Rug hooking, needlepoint, scrapbooking, no sew blankets, or any craft can be done at the library in the Reference Room. Join us for a delightful afternoon of Zen crafting.

Knitting Club

The Swansea Knitters with Sue Carpenter meet each Thursday from noon-2 p.m. for fun, friendship and laughter while working on knitting projects. Whether you are brand new or an experienced knitter, our group is open to anyone at any level. People are here to help. Bring your needles and yarn and pull up a chair.

Simply Done

Simply Done, the Swansea Recipe/Coupon club is looking for new members. Meetings are held each Thursday in the Reference Room from 2-3:30 p.m. Members will swap recipes, cut coupons, find ways to save money, share cookbooks and cooking ideas, talk about food and bring in samples.

Quilting 101

Join us for our beginning quilting series with expert quilter Diane Preble. This ongoing series takes place the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Start a new project or bring in one you are working on. Class size is limited so please sign-up at the circulation desk.

Board Games for Adults

The library welcomes all adult game players for an evening of fun and friendship. Enjoy a relaxing evening in the Reference Room playing board games such as Ticket To Ride, Azul, Settlers of Catan and more. Bring a game to share or play one from the library collection. If you are new to tabletop board games we have people who will teach you how to play. The group meets the first Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 26, 6-8 p.m.  Free Movie: Rocketman (2019; Rated R; 2h, 1min) on the big screen. Popcorn and drinks are provided; outside snacks are also welcome.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 4-6 p.m.  Painting Landscapes.  Local artist John Irwin will take you step by step through the process of starting a landscape painting and deciding when it is finished. UNION LIBRARY Children are invited to story time at Union Public Library, 3832 Main Road in Tiverton, on Tuesdays,Feb. 4, 11 and 18 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. It's a free, fun program where children can enjoy stories and a craft related to the books they've heard. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served at Union Public Library, 3832 Main Road, on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to visit, browse the library's collection, and enjoy a cup of cocoa (alternative beverages will be available) and some light refreshments. The Union Public Library Book Club meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Union, 3832 Main Road. This month's selection is the Read Across Rhode Island book, "Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore" by Elizabeth Rush. Copies of the book will be available at Union Library during regular business hours on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and at Tiverton Public Library during their normal hours of operation. The program consists of stories on a different theme each week, songs, rhythm instruments, finger-plays, poetry and a simple take-home craft project. Registration is necessary for this program. A Time for Tots Program for little children ages 2-3 who love books will run on Wednesdays, through April 29 from 10 - 11 a.m. The program consists of songs, finger-plays, a brief story, puppets, rhythm instruments, and nursery rhymes. This program is suitable for a caregiver and child to participate together. Following the story period, toys are provided for children to stay and play! Registration is necessary for this program.
