Coronavirus: Wuhan University student from Odisha admitted to hospital, stable

BHUBANESWAR: A female student of Wuhan University, who returned to Odisha on January 19, was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital on Sunday. The woman has been kept in the isolation ward and her swab and blood samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for suspected novel coronavirus.
“The woman had attended a wedding in Cuttack on Saturday. So we are also keeping a track of the persons she came in contact with in the last few days and whether any of them have any symptoms of cold or flu. Her husband has also been admitted and kept in isolation in the hospital as a precautionary measure,” health secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal said.
Officials said it is too early to say if she has contracted the virus or not. “Her condition is quite stable. She has minor symptoms of flu. As a preventive measure and as per the guidelines, we have kept her in the isolation ward,” Dr CBK Mohanty, director of medical education and training, said.
Meanwhile, the swab and blood samples of four persons from the state sent to NIV, Pune tested negative for coronavirus.
