LUCKNOW: Hair transplant surgery is now also available at dental faculty of King George's Medical University (KGMU).
Dentists at KGMU's oral maxillofacial department performed their first hair transplant on a 32-year-old man from Rae Bareli who was suffering from baldness for five years.
The condition is known as Androgenetic alopecia, common hair loss problem in both men and women, which occurs due to genetic reasons.
As many as 2,000 hair follicles were transplanted on the patient's head during an eight-hour-long procedure by a team of four dentists.
Dean, dental faculty, Prof Shadab Mohammed said the result would be visible in six months and till that time the patient would have to visit them for follow-ups.
Normally, hair transplant is done by a plastic surgeon and KGMU's plastic surgery department has been carrying out hair transplant for long.
Asked if dentists could perform such surgery, KGMU spokesperson Sudhir Singh said, "All the four dentists have also done a certificate course for this surgery. They are authorised to perform the surgery."
