Ahmedabad: Man attempts rape, murder on mentally ill woman

AHMEDABAD: A 30-year-old man on Saturday midnight attempted rape on a mentally ill woman, aged around 30, and tried to kill her by hitting some tough object on her head in Chharodi on SG road.
The man identified as Rajkumar Mandal, who works as daily wager in Chharodi and hails from Malda district in West Bengal, was caught by security guards who were deployed at residential housing society near the place of crime.
According to FIR registered with the Sola police, a man called up police control room and informed cops that a woman was raped inside bushes near Tirupati Akruti Green society near a university campus on Saturday midnight.
The man told the cops that he along with another security guard was walking in that area and they found the woman lying half-naked and bleeding severely.
“When the two spotted the woman, the accused was trying to rape her but seeing them, he fled from there,” stated the FIR. Later, the accused was also chased and caught by the caller and a security guard and was handed over to the Sola police.
The woman was later taken to Civil hospital in Sola area of the city where she underwent medical checkup.
The woman is undergoing treatment for her injuries and she was not able to speak properly on what had exactly happened to her, states the FIR.
ACP, A division, MA Patel said that the primary medical reports confirmed that the woman was not raped but she was molested and brutally assaulted.
“We have registered a case of molestation and attempt to murder against Mandal and began an investigation in the case,” Patel said.
